What is International Day of Pink?

International Day of Pink takes place on the second Wednesday of April every year. The day is about showing support against bullying, discrimination, homophobia and transphobia specifically targeting LGBTQ+ people.

Why does the day exist?

The idea was born in 2007 in Nova Scotia, Canada, when two students saw another student being bullied for wearing a pink t-shirt. They bought pink t-shirts for themselves and encouraged other students to do the same as a symbol of support, which grew into the movement behind the day. The day was created to highlight that pink is nothing to be ashamed of and to say that everyone deserves respect, regardless of sexuality or gender identity.


How can you mark the day?

- Wear pink as a symbol of solidarity and against bullying.
- Organize or participate in talks, workshops or events about acceptance, diversity and safety for all.
- Spread the word via social media, tagging with #DayofPink or similar, and show that you stand up for inclusion.
