The day was initiated in 2009 by activist and drag fan Adam Stewart who, through his Facebook page, wanted to create a global day for drag artists and drag culture to be visible and have space to show their work and art.
The aim was to provide a space for drag collectives around the world to celebrate, be seen, be inspired and spread awareness of their art form and community.
